Duncan Gibbs

Duncan Gibbs has been the Exploration Manager for AngloGold Ashanti Australia since 2001.  In this capacity he has been responsible for managing Australian exploration and initiating expansion of AngloGold’s exploration activities into Asia.  The company’s Australian exploration is currently focussed on the Tropicana Joint Venture.  Duncan is also the Tropicana Project Manager, leading a multidisciplinary study team.

 

Duncan held the role of Chief Mining Geologist for AngloGold between 2000 and 2001, a position which included reviewing exploration and mine geology at Sunrise Dam, Union Reef and Tanami mines and project studies at Boddington.

 

Duncan commenced work at Sunrise Dam when the site consisted of four tents, a caravan, and a long drop.  Between 1994 and 2000 he lead the geological team through advanced exploration, prefeasibility and feasibility studies, commissioning, mining operations and the subsequent expansions of the open pit mine.

 

In his early career, Duncan worked in New South Wales, the Northern Territory, Victoria and Western Australia on a number of gold and based metal exploration projects spanning target generation to prefeasibility study.
